Deliveries to actual customers have begun.
Rivian beat out Tesla, GMC, and Ford.
The R1T starts at $90,000 in Canada.
Rivian has rivaled Tesla in headlines all through 2021. While not all stories were positive, there’s no doubt that Rivian’s managed to out-maneuver the once thought-to-be invincible Musk and Tesla: They’ve now delivered their anticipated R1T electric truck to its first owners.
While this is a milestone and something that will never be taken away from Rivian, the fact that they beat GMC, Ford, and Tesla to the finish line does not mean they will dominate in sales. In this department, there’s no doubt that Ford’s Lightning will take the title as they are poised to begin deliveries in the spring of 2022. As for the GMC Hummer EV, deliveries are planned for the fall of 2021, which is now…
In both GM’s and Ford’s case, once the ball gets rolling, they should be in a position to out-produce Rivian before long. If anything, most expect that there will be plenty of Hummer EVs, Lightnings, and R1Ts before we see the Tesla Cybertruck roll off an assembly line.
The story, initially reported by Autoweek, says that Rivian will begin delivering the R1S SUV by the end of the year. This is contrary to other sources which say this won’t happen until late spring 2021, or later.
