Jack Up Your Tesla Model Y with Unplugged Performance Coilovers

The Outback of Teslas?

  • Kit lifts Model Y for more ground clearance

  • That space lets you fit those massive off-road tires

Buyers looking for a little more off-road capability for their Tesla Model Y CUV are in luck. Tesla tuners Unplugged Performance have just announced their new coilover suspension kit to lift your Y is once again ready for pre-order.

A Model Y on chunky off-road tires and wheels that still has room under the arches is an odd sight, but we imagine there’s a pretty significant portion of the Model Y owner group who isn’t content to stick to pavement. Who would, when the great outdoors awaits your silent arrival?

The kit was first offered last November but appears to have quickly sold out. Now it’s back, and the company says it offers “true ground clearance and suspension travel gains without sacrificing on-road manners.” Though how much ground clearance that is, they didn’t say. You can see it tackling some serious off-road in their photo gallery, though by that we mean it’s on some hard-packed gravel near some train tracks.

Unplugged says it’s fully adjustable for height as well as damping, and they suggest it for areas with snow as well as dirt. The low clearance of Teslas, along with loads of torque and a completely flat bottom can see them beached on a pile of snow. Yes, that can happen to any car, but the heavy EVs seem to be more prone to the problem.

Unplugged has long offered on-road and on-track handling modifications for Teslas, as well as appearance and aerodynamic parts, opening up a market where traditional tuners seem afraid to tread.
