Jeep Gladiator Adds Tuscadero, Confirms 4xe PHEV Next Year

Tuscadero announcement undersells 4xe

  • Gladiator pickup adding 4xe power

  • Pink with blue accents might finally be offered in a truck

Yesterday, Jeep announced that it would be selling its Gladiator pickup in Tuscadero pink. What it left out of that announcement was the real news: The Jeep Gladiator is getting the company’s 4xe electric powertrain starting next year.

Jeep Brand CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed the arrival of 4xe to Gladiator through a post on his LinkedIn page. Not exactly the normal way to break big news, but there it is: “Next year, we’ll extend that freedom of choice even further with a Gladiator 4xe option (colors to be announced) that will join the No. 1 and No. 2 best-selling plug-in hybrids in the U.S, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.”

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has been offered with 4xe since 2021. In the Wrangler, the 2.0L engine and electric motor come with a 17 kWh battery. The combination delivers 34 km of range and makes up to 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Jeep dropped the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 from the Gladiator last year, making the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 and its 285 hp the only engine offered in the truck.

The announcement didn’t mention specifics, like tow capacity or payload. The V6 2024 Gladiator has a maximum payload of 1,700 lbs and a max tow rating of 7,650. As the diesel version offered lower figures because of the engine’s extra weight, it’s likely that the heavy PHEV system will do the same here.
