Jeep Wagoneer S: 600 hp and Quicker than Model Y Performance and Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Best look at Wagoneer S yet

  • Wagoneer S will be quickest Jeep yet

  • Expected 300 mile range, 600 hp

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is quicker than a Tesla Model Y and quicker than a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. At least that’s what Jeep claims in this latest video, which shows off its first full-electric model for North America.

Jeep’s teaser video shows the Wagoneer taking on the Tesla Model Y Performance. The Tesla was the best-selling vehicle in the world last year, and Jeep is aiming high with its own new EV. Plus, running yours against the established players is not just Elon Musk’s go-to (see Cybertruck+Porsche vs Porsche); it’s been a marketing standard for generations.

The Wagoneer S beats the Model Y Performance from 0-60 mph, with a 3.4-second time to Tesla’s claimed 3.5. Sure that’s tight, but as a certain Mopar spokesperson says, it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile.

Its acceleration comes from 600 hp and 617 lb-ft of torque. Both of those figures are well north of the Model Y Performance’s claimed 456 hp and 497 lb-ft, so, frankly, we expected a bigger difference.

Don’t look too closely at the dash to guess the Wagoneer S electric range. It says 210 km on 80 percent charge remaining, but the official Jeep estimate is more than 486 km on a full charge. Again better than the Model Y Performance.

Then it’s hellcat time. The 6.2L supercharged Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the quickest-accelerating production Jeep ever. Make that was the quickest because Wagoneer S and its 3.4-second run is quicker than the Trackhawk at 3.5. We can’t wait for the quarter mile.

Jeep is showing off more of the new Wagoneer S. Like parts of the interior and a panoramic roof. But it’s performance that the brand is pushing here, along with a bit of dirt road driving.

The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S EV arrives this fall.
