The Jeep 4xe Day will be held on September 8th
The automaker is expected to reveal more details about its upcoming electric models
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is currently the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in the US
Jeep posted a teaser video to its Twitter page to announce an event called 4xe Day in which it is expected to announce its electrification strategy and release more details about its upcoming electric vehicles.
4xe is the name of Jeep’s new plug-in hybrid technology currently available on the Wrangler and the new Grand Cherokee, but it seems to also refer to the brand’s electrification efforts more broadly.
The company has already teased at least three fully electric models and has hinted at the possibility of installing different variants of its current Plug-in technology in other vehicles.
The three future EVs include a Wrangler and possibly a Grand-Cherokee as well as a much smaller model that will be introduced in Paris next month. This last model might not be sold in North America, but this has not been confirmed.
During 4xe Day, whose date has been set for September 8th, the automaker will make a number of announcements, which will likely include additional models that will receive the brand’s plug-in hybrid powertrain, such as the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.
In this application, the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine used in the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe is rumoured to be replaced with the new Hurricane turbocharged inline-six-cylinder powertrain.
Fully electric vehicles will also be announced since the Tweet from Jeep contains the phrase “Freedom is Electric”, which refers to an off-road capable electric model.
Jeep is at the forefront of the electrification of Stellantis in North America since it is one of its most popular brands and the Wrangler 4xe has become the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in the United States shortly after its introduction.
