Will be built on Hyundai’s “E-GMP” dedicated EV platform.
Target range is 500km.
This electric SUV will be the first electric Genesis and will be followed by GV70 and G80 EVs.
Hyundai’s luxury division, Genesis, is looking to keep striking the iron while it’s still blazing hot. So far this year, Genesis has revealed the GV80 SUV and the all-new G80- luxury sedan. And this, only a few months after launching the new G90 flagship sedan. Genesis had hinted that a new EV was forthcoming and now we know a little more about electric SUV.
As we know, the industry is going electric and while many OEMs are using sedans to demonstrate their know-how, the real money’s in SUVs, if done right. Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and Tesla are, for the moment, on their own but Genesis intends on jumping in with their high-performance electric SUV as early as the summer of 2021.
The codenamed JW EV will be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) and will deliver up to 500km of range. It is said that JW EV supports ultra-fast charging meaning that an 80% charge can be attained in about 20 minutes.
Test mules have been spotted meaning that development is well underway. The big advantage to Genesis is that Kia and Hyundai will also build their future EVs on the E-GMP which will translate in economies of scale for all. This tells us that the Genesis electric SUV will follow typical Hyundai Group traditions and be value-packed.
