Karma Amaris GT Coupé 2027: Closing in on Production

Karma is taking advantage of the Monterey Car Week festivities in California to reveal more of its upcoming coupé, the 2027 Amaris GT. This time, the spotlight is on its luxurious cabin.

The Amaris is inching closer to production. Based on the Californian brand’s projections, the car should join the Karma lineup in about a year and a half, by the end of 2026. Until then, the striptease continues with the unveiling of the interior, an environment for two that is both high-tech and lavish.

From the moment the door opens, the richness of the materials makes an impression. Leather, Alcantara, exposed carbon fibre, and gloss black accents dominate the space. For the presentation, designers chose a Crimson Orbit red finish. True to the times, multiple screens populate the cabin: a digital instrument cluster, a central multimedia display, and a smaller one in front of the passenger.

Complementing the two-seat configuration, the rear section has been converted for luggage. There’s also an electrochromic glass roof that adjusts its opacity based on light levels.

A Bold Design Statement

The lines of the Amaris GT have been known for some time, but it’s worth noting its construction is almost entirely in aluminium. The model also carries Karma’s new visual signature, the “Comet Line”: a vertical LED strip in the bumper, another at the top of the clamshell hood, and two horizontal ones in the headlamp units. Continuing the “space” theme, the 22-inch wheels feature a “constellation” design.

Powertrain for the Modern Age

While most automakers have embraced pure electrification, Karma has remained true to its roots with a plug-in hybrid extended-range configuration.

The base setup includes two electric motors supported by a four-cylinder generator. Combined output stands at 708 horsepower and 676 lb-ft of torque. According to the manufacturer, that’s enough for 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds) and a top speed of 265 km/h.

With its 41.5-kWh battery, the Amaris offers 160 kilometres (100 miles) of pure electric range. Add the generator, and total range climbs to 643 kilometres (400 miles). More and more automakers are turning to this technology as a highly effective bridge between hybrid combustion engines and full electrification.

When and How Much?

Unsurprisingly, the 2027 Karma Amaris GT won’t be within everyone’s reach, with a starting price estimated at $200,000 USD ($275,000 CAD). Production is slated to begin in the final quarter of 2026, for the 2027 model year.
