Kia has launched its inaugural pickup truck, the Tasman, at the Jeddah International Motor Show. The Tasman, developed for both work and recreational use, introduces Kia to the competitive global pickup market, focusing on customization, advanced technology, and durability. Set to launch globally in 2025, the Tasman will be available in three trims: Baseline, X-Line, and X-Pro, designed to meet a variety of consumer needs, from small businesses to outdoor enthusiasts.

The Tasman’s design emphasizes both utility and aesthetic simplicity. With a wide radiator grille and Kia’s signature “Tiger Face” lighting, the Tasman projects rugged capability. The truck’s practical design is evident in corner steps, a power outlet-equipped load bed, and a sliding cargo floor supporting an expansive 1,173L cargo capacity. Available in nine colors, including the unique Denim Blue and Tan Beige, the Tasman can be further personalized with accessory options like a double-decker bed setup or sports roll bar.

The cabin includes symmetrical proportions, easy-to-use controls, and multifunctional features like a folding console table and dual wireless charging. The interior is spacious, with best-in-segment headroom, shoulder room, and legroom. Key technological features include a panoramic infotainment setup with 12.3-inch screens, an optional Harmon Kardon audio system, and integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Performance specifications vary by region, with a 2.5L petrol engine delivering 281 horsepower available in Korea and a 2.2L diesel engine option for the Australian market. The Tasman’s suspension system combines a double-wishbone front suspension with hydraulic rebound technology for improved handling across on-road and off-road conditions. Its ground clearance is up to 252mm on the X-Pro variant. All models can ford water up to 800mm, and all-wheel drive is offered across various trims with off-road driving modes such as Mud, Snow, and Rock.

The Tasman’s safety suite is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and innovative features, such as trailer profile functionality that adjusts driving settings based on the trailer specifications. The Ground View Monitor assists drivers on rugged terrain.

The Kia Tasman is set to debut in South Korea in the first half of 2025, followed by releases in Australia, Africa, and the Middle East, where Saudi Arabia is anticipated to be a key market. It is not expected to come to North America, but it would undoubtedly do well. If anything, it would generate greater numbers than the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Kia can send the truck to North America.
