Kia Gets New Logo, Slogan, Celebrates With World Record Fireworks

Kia celebrates new logo with firework show

  • Power to surprise now movement that inspires

  • Guinness record for launching fireworks from 303 drones

Kia has a new logo and a new slogan, as the company seems to have decided that they’ve been competitive enough for long enough that it’s no longer a surprise. And while we’re not sold on the new logo just yet, the announcement came via a fireworks display that set a Guinness World Record in a category that’s as cool as it sounds.

Before the announcement, Kia’s slogan was “Power to Surprise.” For a brand that started selling cars in Canada just over 20 years ago and has in that short time moved from a bargain brand to one recognized for excellent value and highly competitive products, that slogan seemed apt. Now, though, it’s less of a surprise, recognized in the global slogan “Movement that Inspires.”

What exactly that means will come in a few weeks when Kia details its new brand strategy, purpose, and philosophy, but for now, the story is the new logo. Though to us it seems slightly more difficult to read than the previous text, Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song says that “Kia’s new logo represents the company’s commitment to becoming an icon for change and innovation.” He added that “our new logo represents our desire to inspire customers as their mobility needs evolve, and for our employees to rise to the challenges we face in a fast-changing industry.”

Now for the fireworks. Kia set a Guinness World Record for “most unmanned aerial vehicles launching fireworks simultaneously” during the show that they recorded to reveal the logo. The fireworks were filmed and are shown off in a three-minute YouTube video filled with lights, explosions, and, of course, that new Kia logo. With the fireworks launched from 303 “pyrodrones,” it was a display that definitely inspired.
