Kia unveiled two models at this year’s New York Auto Show, the Kia Stinger GTS and the Kia HabaNiro Concept.
Kia Stinger GTS
The Kia Stinger GTS will be the hotter number among the Singer’s line-up of trims, The big deal is the revised AWD system that adds a drift for those who may be inclined to do so.
Kia calls its newly developed dynamic all-wheel drive system D-AWD for dynamic AWD. It features a rear mechanical limited slip differential and rive modes that vary torque split front to rear. Said “drift” mode sends 100 percent of power to the rear and holds gears without upshifting.
On top of D-AWD, the new Kia Stinger GTS includes an exclusive “Federation” premium orange paint color, some genuine carbon fiber accents, the GTS rear emblem and a rear center “Stinger” emblem which replaces the Kia logo on the trunk lid. The cabin is loaded up with sweet Alcantara and suede-like Chamude.
Importantly, the Kia Stinger GTS retains the twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 which is goof for 365-horsepower and 376 lb.-ft. of torque. As well, only 800 will be produced so get your order in now!
Kia HabaNiro Concept
The HabaNiro concept is very different animal. It is a fully-electric, all-wheel drive, go-anywhere, do anything “The Everything Car” or ECEV created by Kia’s California design studio.
The four-seater car features an electric range of more than 300 miles, level-five autonomous mode, and while the butterfly doors will probably not make it to production, Kia says that the HabaNiro suggest not betting the farm on it never seeing production.
The HabaNiro includes all kinds of interesting and novel technology including Kia’s new Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving (R.E.A.D.) This system can adjust the cabin’s space by analyzing the driver’s state and then tailors the interior environment.
It is difficult to clearly describe what the Kia HabaNiro looks like but it certainly is original, and far from unpleasant to take in visually. It’s like a dune buggy that could double as a Moon or Mars rover.
