Kia Indefinitely Delays the Introduction of the EV4 in the United States

Tariffs and administrative measures imposed by Trump continue to wreak havoc across the automotive industry’s organization. The latest victim: Kia’s upcoming EV4 lineup. The automaker has now indefinitely delayed its U.S. launch. Fortunately, Canada is not affected by this decision.

  • The EV4 was scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in early 2026
  • Its base price was estimated to be around $30,000 USD
  • Canada is not impacted by this decision

Sometimes, the automotive world can feel utopian. The Kia EV4 was unveiled with great fanfare at last April’s New York Auto Show. Now, following a collection of restrictive measures introduced by the Trump administration, Kia USA has decided to indefinitely postpone the commercialization of the 2026 EV4 sedan.

This move comes just weeks before international media were set to test-drive the vehicle in Spain. It’s a heartbreaking decision, given that the car was only months away from reaching showrooms. Kia states that the U.S. introduction of the EV4 has been “postponed until further notice.”

Kia USA justified its decision in a statement to InsideEVs.com: “Market conditions for electric vehicles have changed; the introduction of the new EV4 sedan will be delayed until further notice.”

Trump, Trump Again

The Trump administration’s removal of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit has dealt a serious blow to the entire electric vehicle industry. As a result, automakers are being forced to reassess their pricing and marketing strategies. In some cases, they are left with no choice but to delay or cancel certain models, as seen with the EV4. In addition, newly imposed import tariffs add another layer of costs that were not originally planned. Official pricing for the 2026 EV4 in the U.S. had not yet been announced.

At launch, the EV4 was expected to offer two powertrain configurations. Built on the e-GMP platform and using a 400V electrical architecture, the base model was to feature a front-mounted 150 kW (201 hp) electric motor paired with a 58.3 kWh battery, promising a range of around 378 km. Higher trims with a larger 81.4 kWh battery were expected to deliver more than 530 km of range.

In Canada, however, this situation does not apply, the EV4’s plans remain unchanged.
