Kia Introduces Cutting-Edge EV9 SUV at New York International Auto Show

Kia’s all-electric 2024 EV9 SUV made its North American debut at the 2023 New York International Auto Show;
Design-wise, it features a muscular stance, and dynamic character lines, up to 5,014 mm in length with a width of 1,979 mm and a height of up to 1,781 mm with 572 litres of cargo space.
Powertrain options are designed to perform with two powertrain options: 76.1 kWh battery and 160 kW (215 hp) motor for rear wheels or optional 99.8 kWh battery for 283 kW (379 hp) torque vectoring all-wheel drive with 516 lb-ft of torque for quick charging capabilities up 230 kW DC charging or 11 kW Level 2 charging.

Kia has just unveiled their all-electric 2024 EV9 SUV, introducing it to North America at the 2023 New York International Auto Show. As the first three-row EV SUV from Kia and the flagship model of their global Plan S strategy, the EV9 is quickly becoming a leader in its segment and a symbol of the automotive industry’s commitment to electrification.

Features like generous interior volume, towing capability and intuitive vehicle dynamics are backed up by fast charging capabilities and rich interior appointments, embodying Kia‘s “Opposites United” design philosophy that unites natural elements with modern features. The EV9 is paving the way for an electrified lineup from Kia as a mobility leader, offering high value and innovative consumer focus, making it a leader among SUVs in the EV era.

Design

The all-electric EV9 is Kia’s flagship SUV, with its muscular stance and dynamic character lines embodying a rugged yet sophisticated typology. At up to 5,014 mm in length with a width of 1,979 mm and a height of up to 1,781 mm, the EV9 is slightly longer than the Telluride SUV, providing 572 litres of cargo space with all three rows raised and 2,319L when both rear seats are folded down.

The all-electric SUV’s boxy triangular design accentuates the short overhangs and long wheelbase, resulting in a bold front appearance highlighted by slender LED headlights on both sides of the updated Kia “Tiger Nose” grille. Flush door handles with automatic deployment and Star Map LED animated Digital Pattern Lighting Grille that the driver can personalize complete this modern SUV, available in gloss or factory matte finish paint options.

Inside

The interior of the 2024 Kia EV9 is as modern as can be, combining innovative materials with a post-industrial approach to craftsmanship. The signature “Opposites United” ethos offers various features, including non-leather polyurethane seating surfaces, BTX-free interiors, and partially recycled fabrics and carpets.

Reductionism is at the heart of the cabin design, featuring hidden-until-lit haptic switches for infotainment and a dual-level center console for increased stowage options. The driver can enjoy an optional full display mirror, head-up display, Meridian Premium Audio system with 14 speakers and 708 watts of audio power, and steering wheel LED lighting that illuminates the Kia logo.

With executive class seating in all three rows and “Relaxation Mode” featuring heating and cooling options alongside several power outlets throughout the cabin, the EV9 is fully equipped to make every ride as comfortable as possible.

Up To 379 HP

The powertrain options of the 2024 Kia EV9 are designed to perform, featuring the fourth-generation battery technology with two powertrain options. The standard 76.1 kWh battery and 160 kW (215 hp) motor drive the rear wheels. In comparison, the optional 99.8 kWh battery offers up to 483 km of all-electric range in a single-motor configuration or dual-motor, 283 kW (379 hp) torque vectoring all-wheel drive with 516 lb-ft of torque. The EV9 also features quick charging capabilities – up to 230 kW for DC charging and 11 kW for Level 2 charging – and four distinct driving modes as standard: Eco, Normal, Sport, and My Mode.

The Kia EV9 is not yet available for purchase, with a target sales date of Q4 2023. However, it is expected to be assembled in West Point, Georgia, starting in 2024.
