Fifth-generation Sportage gets all-new design language
Interior shows massive widescreen display
Kia is getting ready to launch a new version of its longest-running crossover model. The fifth generation of the Kia Sportage got a teaser that shows off a new and more muscular design, one that looks much more like the EV6 electric model that the brand is soon launching than it resembles the current Sportage.
The official reveal is set for July and to happen in Korea. The new Sportage will use Kia’s new design language, called Opposites United, and it will likely be the first gas-engined vehicle to wear the new design. As we said, the new language was originally featured on the EV6, and here it contains details like sharp body lines and a much more aggressive and angular nose. The current Sportage is much more dumpy than this teaser, and, especially with its funky headlights, never quite fit in with what the rest of the automaker’s lineup was doing.
“Taking inspiration from an ethos we created where nature meets technology, the all-new Sportage challenges the norm with an adventurous and contemporary exterior and a carefully conceived, beautifully detailed interior,” said Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center. “With the all-new Sportage, we were fully focused on challenging ourselves and pushing our fifth-generation SUV to a new level.”
Kia says that the crossover will get a wide and detail-oriented new front grille and that it would have more muscular shoulders than before. It will also wear a new Kia badge and Sportage emblem. Kia showed off a glimpse of the interior as well, showcasing a massive new one-piece wrap-around screen for the dash and infotainment display. Expect more details in the coming weeks ahead of the full reveal in July.
