New CC850 sold out in near-record time
Now 20 more have been added to the list
Koenigsegg launched the CC850 to celebrate the 50th birthday of the company’s boss. And part of that was limiting the car to just 50 examples. It sold out almost instantly, surprising even Koenigsegg. The company’s response? More cars!
“It quickly became evident that the planned number of 50 cars was too limited, as this meant that not even the most loyal of Koenigsegg owners could all get their desired share of CC850s, while hopeful new owners would also not be able to obtain one,” the company said in a statement.
So Koenigsegg reached out to several of its long-term customers who already had their names down for a CC850 and its gated automatic transmission. To ask if they’d be ok with more cars being built.
The owners said yes, or at least “their responses were positive,” so Koenigsegg is building more cars.
They’re calling it 50 as a happy birthday present to Christian von Koenigsegg and an extra 20 to mark 20 years of the company’s vehicle production.
“The response to the CC850 is overwhelming. Producing an additional 20 on top of the planned 50 CC850s is still not even close to demand, but it gives us the chance to consider the brand loyalists to a larger degree, while also welcoming a small portion of new owners,” said Christian von Koenigsegg.
”Clearly, we struck a chord with the connoisseurs and the fans by blending our roots with novel thinking and a timeless design that stands apart from the rest. We are humbled and grateful for the response and will do our outmost to exceed expectations.”
