Despite Fiat delivery numbers indicating that the Italian carmaker’s best days are behind it, FCA’s not going to go down without a fight.
For 2019, the 500X crossover returns with an enhanced design, more technology, and hope. The new 500X’s styling is a proper evolution from the previous car with revised front a rear designs and while its looks may be a conversation-starter, what lurks beneath the bonnet is the real story.
The 500X will be powered by an all-new 1.3-litre direct-injection turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with engine stop-start (ESS) technology. If displacement seems small, the power number says otherwise. With 177-horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque, the 500X promises to be good fun to drive around in.
Also included as standard are a 9-speed automatic transmission and an AWD system with a disconnecting rear axle – both further contributing to improved fuel consumption numbers.
The 2019 Fiat 500X Pop’s base price is set at $31,995 and includes a battery of safety and infotainment technologies. Look for a standard 7-inch screen with Uconnect, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and much more. For an extra $1,000, the Trekking includes a rugged front fascia, satellite radio, and navigation. A further $1,000 adds power heated leather seats and many more features.
The new 500X arrives in Fiat studios in the Spring of 2019. Whether or not it will contribute in turning the tide remains to be seen.
