Lamborghini Urus SE Debuts as Brand’s First Plug-In Hybrid Super SUV

Lamborghini Launches Urus SE, Its First Plug-In Hybrid SUV, Combining Extreme Performance with Sustainable Innovation.

  • Lamborghini unveils Urus SE, a 789 hp hybrid Super SUV with 60 km electric range.

  • New features include a floating hood design, advanced aerodynamics, and a revamped interior.

  • Urus SE blends cutting-edge technology with extensive customization, setting new SUV benchmarks.

Automobili Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the Urus SE, its first plug-in hybrid version of the Urus “Super SUV.” The unveiling took place at the Volkswagen Group Media Night ahead of the Beijing Auto Show.

The Urus SE introduces a powerful 789 hp hybrid powertrain to Lamborghini’s SUV range. It combines a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine producing 611 hp with a 189 hp electric motor. A 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery provides over 60 km of pure electric range.

This allows for vastly reduced emissions – an 80% cut compared to the standard Urus, according to Lamborghini. Yet performance takes a big step up, with 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 312 km/h, making it the fastest production SUV.

“With the Urus SE, we’ve taken another step towards electrification in line with our strategy, moving ahead with the path toward decarbonization,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO.

The plug-in hybrid system is augmented by technical innovations like an electric torque vectoring system and electronic rear differential. This allows the Urus SE to put down its prodigious 701 lb-ft of torque output more effectively, improving traction and dynamics on any surface.

Design changes aim to optimize aerodynamics and sporting prowess. At the front, a new floating hood design, reshaped bumpers and lighting freshen the look. The rear features a new diffuser and spoiler that increases downforce by 35% over the standard Urus.

Inside, the Urus SE gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Lamborghini’s latest Human Machine Interface. The digital instrument cluster is also 12.3 inches. The updates further the brand’s “feel like a pilot” interior philosophy.

Customization remains extensive through Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program. Two new paint colours are offered – Arancio Egon orange and Bianco Sapphirus white. Customers can choose from over 100 exterior paints and 47 interior schemes.

On the center console, a “Tamburo” selector lets drivers choose from eleven driving modes and four new Electric Performance Strategies. These parameters include air suspension height, steering, and even engine sound character for different driving scenarios.

“The Urus SE is our Super SUV with two hearts – one thermal harking to our roots, the other electric and futuristic,” said Stefano Cossalter, Product Line Director. “Beating in unison they offer a new level of Lamborghini personality.”

The Urus SE marks a decisive step in Lamborghini’s journey toward electrification following the recent Revuelto plug-in hybrid supercar. It shows how the famed Italian marque aims to slash emissions without compromising the ultra-high-performance its owners expect.
