Land Rover Classic Recreates Camel Trophy Defender Magic

Defenders take second, cooler trip through LR Classic garage

  • 25-only of adventure-ready last-gen Defender

  • Comes with new Land Rover Trophy experience

If you remember the pale yellow and mud-spattered Land Rover Series, Defender and Discovery models that drove to some of the most impassable places on earth just to make for a great highlight reel video that would air on late-night TV well after the event was done, you’re not alone. Land Rover Classic hears you and is recreating that Camel Trophy look with more modern Defenders and without the cigarette branding.

25 of the go-anywhere look Land Rover Defender Works V8 Trophy models will be built in 2021, all of them finished in Eastnor Yellow with black detailing, accessories, and steel wheels. They’ll also come with a ticket to a new Land Rover Trophy adventure set to happen at the traditional home of the brand’s testing Eastnor Castle.

Based on the 2012-2016 Defender Works V8, already a special re-engineered Defender made by LR Classic, this takes the trucks through the shop once again. 90 and 110 Station Wagon bodies, all sporting the 399 hp 5.0L V8 and eight-speed auto, get extensive suspension upgrades as well as new steering and braking packages. LED lights, a heritage grille, and the Trophy badging give it most of the look, but it’s the serious off-road bits that make it just right.

A front winch, expedition cage, roof rack, underbody protection, snorkel, all make this Landie look perfect for forging through the Darien Gap. Or, more likely, the parking lot at Tesco. Inside is leather with Recaro seating and an Elliot Brown clock face plus a new infotainment system with nav.

Customers and co-drivers will get their name and country flag on the bonnet, plus one-on-one training on how to use their rigs, then will get to enter the competition against the 24 other owners. They’re available now for order, starting from £195,000 (CAD 343,000).
