Highest-revving Ferrari road car yet
Boosts NA V12 to 830 hp
Ferrari’s latest V12-powered dream machine has a name. Say farewell to the 812 Superfast and GTS and say hello to the Ferrari 812 Competizione and 812 Competizione A. Launched in delightful Ferrari style by showing the car turning an extremely hot lap of the brand’s home Fiorano track and letting the prancing horses sing.
The brand’s marketing boss said that this was the first official shakedown of the car, which is odd for one that looks this at home on the track. Enrico Galliera told us the new name and talked about how the automaker worked to distil its racing knowledge and instil that into this competition-badged model.
Starting with that V12, making 830 hp – 30 more than Superfast) and tweaked to spin to a breathtaking 9,500 rpm. Their highest-spinning road car ever. Galliera called it “a never-ending acceleration” as the car spins to redline. A new exhaust is meant to fully release the sound of that engine to the world.
Aero changes including a new rear vortex generator add 85 kg of downforce to the car compared with the Superfast, but overall dynamics have been changed as well. Galliera said that he measured dynamics by “the smile on the face of the driver” rather than mathematical KPIs and that on that scale this car delivered.
Top speed is largely the same, as is 0-100, but 0-200 km/h is nearly half a second quicker. The Competizione A, for Aperta, is the open-top version and expected to be a touch slower, but a carbon fibre targa top that stores in a special compartment does its job to keep the weight gain down.
No pricing and production details yet, but expect the former to be high and the latter to be low
