Lego McLaren Elva Launches, Pays Tribute to Development Lead

Lego gets another big Macca

  • The version of the supercar that fits on your desk

  • Mini McLaren on sale now

Forget about the McLaren Elva with a windshield, the model announced today is the one you really want. It’s the Lego Speed Champions Elva and it manages to have the best of all worlds. No windshield while it can drive around where there will never be rain to fall on it: in your living room.

It’s a 263-piece kit that offers a two-seat open cockpit with no roof, windshield, or side glass. McLaren talks about the car’s active air management system, but we’re pretty sure that part isn’t incorporated into the Lego kit. The vents are, though, so it all looks the part.

The Lego Elvo is 4 cm tall, 16 cm long and 7 cm wide and gives you about exactly what you’d expect from a Lego Speed Champions recreation. It also comes with a minifig with race suit, helmet, and wrench, with the figure inspired by Rachel Brown, the principal development engineer for McLaren’s Ultimate Series cars. That means she’s worked on projects like the Elva and the Senna GTR and helped with the creation of the Lego version of the Senna GTR.

“Ever since I was a child I have dreamed of driving and testing cars and I still can’t believe that it’s a part of my job. I hope that it inspires other young people to follow their passions and pursue careers in the automotive or design and engineering industries. There are so many incredible opportunities,” said Brown.

The Lego McLaren Elva is on sale now from $19.99 US ($24.99 in Canada).
