Lexus Introduces 2026 LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition, Limited to 5 Units in Canada

The 2026 LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition marks the end of an era, one that should have ended better

  • Lexus will release five LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition sedans in Canada for model year 2026.

  • Exclusive colour combo: Ninety Noir exterior with Rioja Red interior, available only on this edition.

  • Standard features include 416 hp twin-turbo V6, AWD, 12.3-inch touchscreen, and Lexus Safety+ 3.0.

Lexus has announced the 2026 LS 500 AWD Heritage Edition as a final-year tribute to the model that launched the brand in 1989. Limited to just five units for Canada, the special edition sedan is offered in a single configuration and features exclusive design and technology elements. It is expected to reach Canadian dealerships next year, with pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.

Before expanding on the details of the last LS, I quickly want to mention that the late 80s and early 90s were an exceptional era for cars. While the Germans ruled luxury, Cadillac having derailed itself completely, Japan was hitting hard with the launch of Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus. At the time, although the Q45 was exceptional, the Lexus LS stood shoulder to shoulder with the 7 Series, A8, and S-Class. When Uncle Phil said that he drove a Lexus, the world this was true.

Should You Buy a 2021 Lexus LS?

Sadly, by the time the fourth generation was launched for the 2007 model year, the glorious sedan had begun to slip. The fifth generation arrived for 2018, but there was no one to greet it. I recall driving one back-to-back with a new Avalon and quizzically wondering why the LS retailed for nearly $50,000 more. Apart from the seats in the Lexus, the premium Toyota sedan matched it in every way, including road presence.

It’s over

The 2026 Heritage Edition introduces a new exterior colour called Ninety Noir, a deep, dark black. The vehicle rides on 20-inch split-20-spoke alloy wheels in Dark Gray Metallic. Dark exterior trim and mouldings complete the look.

Inside, the Heritage Edition features Rioja Red leather upholstery, the first time this colour has been used in the LS lineup. The centre console includes a laser-etched LS Heritage Edition emblem, with matching embroidery on the headrests. Laser Special Black premium wood trim has been updated with a new pattern, and the interior is finished with Ultrasuede on the headliner and sun visors. A panorama glass roof is also standard, as is a head-up display.

Power is supplied by a 3.4-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, producing 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. The LS 500 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. A 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system with a Torsen limited-slip centre differential.

Technology features include a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen. Connected services available via subscription or trial include Cloud Navigation with real-time traffic updates, Intelligent Assistant with enhanced voice recognition, and Digital Key functionality for smartphone-based vehicle access and sharing. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard.

A Fascinating Look Back at 35 Years of Lexus in Canada

The LS 500 Heritage Edition includes a Mark Levinson 23-speaker Reference Surround Sound system with QuantumLogic Immersion, as well as a Panoramic View Monitor and Advanced Park assist system. Additional comfort features include heated rear seats.

The model comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and more.

Godspeed, Lexus LS.
