Built with German streetwear store to mark shoe’s jubilee
Carbon and leather ride-on mower!
Automotive customiser Mansory built its reputation turning already bold cars and trucks into absolute statements. Adding brash style, extra bodywork, and more power to loads of high-end Porsches, Audis, Lambos, and more. Their latest, though, seems to show that they have a sense of humour about what they do day in and day out for wealthy customers. Because this one is a lawnmower. That’s a tribute to the Air Jordan brand.
From any other automaker, this wouldn’t make any sense at all. Somehow for Mansory, the BSTN GT XI makes absolute sense. A ride-on with custom carbon fibre bodywork, a leather-covered carbon seat and a carbon fibre steering wheel designed to pay tribute to a shoe.
Because, as Mansory says, the designer of the original Air Jordan shoes, Tinker Hatfield, was inspired by a ride-on mower when he designed the Air Jordan XI, possibly the most popular shoe in the line.
How did that get to here, though? 2020 marks 25 years since that Air Jordan XI, and so German streetwear store BSTN wanted to bring your attention to the Air Jordan XI Jubilee Sneakers that are being released for the anniversary.
While we don’t know that much about sneakers, we do think that the Air Jordan mower is going to stand out in any garage it finds itself in, even surrounded by Mansory-tuned cars. And that Michael Jordan was playing baseball when original XI was designed seems fitting as well.
Back to the mower, it’s a one of one custom, though it builds on Mansory’s experience building golf carts and other non-automotive collaborations. It’s fitted with massive whitewall tires, a carbon fibre handle for the speed selector, and there are plenty of Air Jordan Jumpman logos. Posing with it is FC Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, who is five years younger than the shoe.
