Many Canadian Rivian Pre-Order Holders will Have to Wait Another Year for Delivery

Up until the reception of the letter, some Rivian pre-order holders expected to receive their vehicle in the next few months

  • Some would-be owners have received letters from Rivian with the unfortunate news.

  • Deliveries have been delayed many times since late last year.

Rivian, like all other automakers, continues to deal with supply chain issues, among other difficulties that have plagued the industry for well over a year. Launching the production line was a struggle and delays have forced Rivian to revise its 2022 output plans at least twice. Canadians will be hardest hit by these setbacks.

Rivian was planning on assembling 40,000 new EVs this year but ongoing complications have reduced that figure to 25,000. So far, in the first half of 2022, the automaker has built only 7,696 units.

It appears evident now who will not be getting their new Rivian trucks as a number of Canadian pre-order holders have received notices informing them that they will not be taking delivery of their vehicles before the second half of 2023.

According to Carsoops, and this is easily believable, these customers are miffed. One upset would-be Rivian owner placed an order for a Launch Edition R1T sometime in 2020. Up until recently, the estimated delivery was set between July and September, now it’s been pushed back to a year from now.
