We can’t wait for what looks like another trident styling hit
MC20 is brand’s first supercar since 2004 MC12
Maserati has an all-new mid-engine sports car coming and while we’re going to have to wait another nine days to see the whole thing, here’s the outline, teased on social media which seems to be the current trend for even luxury automakers: build hype for as long as possible because you wouldn’t want anyone to get distracted, would you?
The Maserati MC20 looks like a bigger and more powerful version of the carbon-heavy and ultra-small (and visceral) Alfa 4C, and, frankly if that’s exactly what we got we’d be pretty happy with the end result. But since it’s bigger, maybe something a little more sonorous and powerful than Alfa’s 1750cc four.
It’s just six seconds of video, but what a six seconds they are. Showing a sleek, wrap-around windshield moving back into a narrowing side window. What look like rear glass louvres (yes, please!) and gaping air intakes in the tops of the rear haunches. It looks more Lancia than Maserati, but they’re in the family so all is fair.
It’s just some silhouettes, but the nose looks to have more than a passing resemblance to the MC12, the Ferrari V12-powered production homologation variant that the company built in 2004 to compete in the FIA GT championship. A more accessible version of that GT car is sure to be a hit, and we can’t wait to see what Maserati has in store for us on September 9th when the full MC20 is revealed, especially since we were expecting it to arrive back in May.
