The 2nd generation of the Levante SUV is due in 2027.
2025 could also be a troubled year for Maserati.
One of the thorniest issues in the Stellantis corner concerns the few automotive brands that will eventually vanish. Let’s remember the 2021 announcement made by ex-CEO Carlos Tavares, who warned each brand in the empire that they had a few years to prove their value towards the board of directors.

Among them, Maserati finds itself in a vulnerable position, not least because sales figures lost considerable ground in 2024. In the USA, for example, sales fell dramatically by almost 37% in 2024. And it’s even worse in Italy, its local market, where sales of the trident fell by 41% year-on-year.
Worldwide, the Italian automaker saw its sales fall by 39.55%. And with an aging range (for some models) and the electric alternative, Maserati could well witness another decline for a second year in a row.

With the cancelation of the Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans, not to mention the Levante, which has also been sent into retirement, Maserati’s line-up is down to the GT GranTurismo and GranCabrio, as well as the exotic MC20. As for the Grecale crossover, it, too, must contend with strong, well-established competition.
Production of Maserati vehicles has also fallen, not least because of the more niche nature of the models still on the market in 2025. The problem also lies in the brand’s long-term strategy, which will have to wait until 2027 for the second-generation Levante and 2028 for a new Quattroporte.
What’s clear is that Maserati must find a way to get back on its feet, or it could well leave sooner than expected.

The parallels with the Chrysler brand are undeniable. Once a division adored by the North American public, Chrysler now faces an increasingly difficult market for a manufacturer. And with only two versions of a single minivan in the current line-up, it’s hard to get back on track.
And the report that Chrysler’s future electric crossover is on ice at the time of writing speaks volumes about the bleak future of this important division in North American automotive history.
