Polymetal grey paint outside
100th Anniversary red leather inside
New from Mazda is a series of Kuro special edition cars and crossovers that get a cool shade on the outside and an impressively bold statement from the brand on the inside.
Arriving on the Mazda CX-5 and CX-9 crossovers, as well as the Mazda6 sedan, the 2021 Kuro edition vehicles will start with Mazda’s excellent polymetal grey metallic paint, but can also be had with jet black mica. Further accenting the models on the outside, there will be black metallic finish wheels, gloss black, mirrors, and more exterior finish details.
The Kuro name, Mazda Canada says, loosely translates as “black,” like the colour. It refers to the black exterior accents of the special editions and is also a nod to Mazda making the jet black mica paint available here in Canada. In the U.S. the vehicles are grey only and called the Carbon edition.
On the inside, though, is where you’ll find Mazda going bold. The Kuro Edition models will have garnet red leather seats as well as red stitching on the wheel, shift knob, and throughout the cabin. It’s the same shade used in the 100th Anniversary edition cars, and it looks stunning when combined with the rest of Mazda’s exquisite (for the class) interiors. Elsewhere inside the Kuro Mazdas will be black decoration panels to accent the red.
Mazda Canada hasn’t priced the Kuros yet, that’ll come when 2021 pricing is announced for each of the three base vehicles, but the automaker did say they’d be well-equipped with auto climate control, power driver seat, and most of the i-Activsense suite of driver assistance features.
