Updated Mazda CX-5 debuts with E/E Architecture+ and enhanced driver engagement features.
Mazda Motor Corporation introduced two new concept vehicles, the Vision X-COUPE and Vision X-COMPACT, at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. They represent key figures in its future strategy for sustainable mobility and driver engagement, leading up to 2035.
Mazda’s Iconic ‘Soaring Wings’ Logo Enters Digital Age with New Design
The Vision X-COUPE is a plug-in hybrid crossover coupe powered by a two-rotor rotary turbo engine paired with an electric motor and battery. It delivers a maximum output of 510 PS (503 hp) and offers an electric-only range of 160 kilometres, extending to 800 kilometres with engine assistance. The model incorporates Mazda’s proprietary Mobile Carbon Capture system and runs on carbon-neutral fuel derived from microalgae, thereby reducing atmospheric CO2 emissions during operation.

Mazda also presented the Vision X-COMPACT, a compact vehicle (that reminds us of the short-lived Mazda2) designed to strengthen emotional connectivity between the car and driver. The concept integrates empathetic AI and a human sensory digital model, allowing the vehicle to hold natural conversations and propose destinations, Mazda’s approach to future smart mobility systems.

In addition to the two vision models, the all-new Mazda CX-5 in its European specification made its first public appearance. Built on the company’s E/E Architecture+ platform, the updated model features increased interior space, refined exterior design, and enhanced Jinba-ittai driving dynamics. The CX-5 has recorded over 4.5 million units sold globally in more than 100 markets.

Under the exhibition theme “The Joy of Driving Fuels a Sustainable Tomorrow,” Mazda emphasized its strategy to merge carbon neutrality with the emotional aspects of driving. CEO Masahiro Moro said the company remains focused on advancing human-centric mobility and delivering new experiences in line with its “Radically Human” philosophy.
