AMG Reveals Electric Concept with Five-Minute Charging Capability

Revolutionary electric concept previews 2026 production model with ultra-fast charging and axial flux motor technology.

  • Three axial flux motors deliver 1,341+ horsepower output

  • Five-minute charging for 400-kilometre range capability

  • Production model enters series manufacturing in 2026

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the Concept GT XX, a revolutionary four-door electric sports car that delivers more than 1,341 horsepower and can charge approximately 340-360 kilometres of range in just five minutes. The concept provides the first look at the upcoming production model based on AMG’s new high-performance electric architecture, scheduled to enter series production in 2026.

The concept vehicle represents a collaboration between Mercedes-AMG and technology partners including YASA, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains, and development teams across multiple facilities. The drivetrain technology draws from Formula 1 expertise and AMG ONE development experience.

Revolutionary Three-Motor Drivetrain Technology

The Concept GT XX features three axial flux motors arranged in two High Performance Electric Drive Units—one at the front with a single motor, and one at the rear containing two motors. These innovative motors offer three times the power density of conventional electric motors while being two-thirds lighter and one-third smaller in size.

The axial flux technology, originally developed by British electric motor specialist YASA (a Mercedes-Benz subsidiary), enables the compact packaging essential for sports car applications. Each rear motor measures just 79 millimetres wide, while the combined front unit is barely 89 millimetres wide.

“The heart of an AMG was always the motor, and that will remain so with our in-house electric architecture,” said Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG. “With our high-tech axial flux motor, we’re delivering a revolutionary new drive that is unparalleled in terms of power density, weight and packaging.”

Advanced Battery and Ultra-Fast Charging

The High Performance Electric Battery features direct-cooled cylindrical cells with aluminum housings and full-tab configuration. The system operates at more than 800 volts and delivers sustained high power output through intelligent thermal management using electrically non-conductive cooling oil.

The concept achieves an average DC charging power exceeding 850 kilowatts over a wide state-of-charge range. The estimated WLTP range of 400 kilometres can be recharged in approximately five minutes—equivalent to the distance from Affalterbach to Spa-Francorchamps.

The battery cells use NCMA chemistry (nickel/cobalt/manganese/aluminum) with silicon-content anodes, delivering 300 Wh/kg energy density. More than 3,000 individual cells are packaged within laser-welded plastic modules featuring integrated direct cooling channels.

Aerodynamic Excellence and Design Innovation

Despite accommodating wide high-performance tyres, the Concept GT XX achieves a drag coefficient of 0.198 through careful aerodynamic development. The design features include active air control systems, underbody optimization, and integrated cooling solutions that balance performance with efficiency.

The exterior showcases luminescent paint segments using electroluminescence technology, creating special visual effects during night driving and charging processes. Speakers integrated within the front headlights provide exterior sound generation while saving weight and space.
