The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, aka the G-Wagon and Geländewagen, has experienced quite a resurgence during the pandemic. Pre-owned pricing for the premium SUV skyrocketed quickly exceeding the truck’s value when it was new. This phenomenon isn’t going to end any time soon as Benz has just stopped taking orders for the G-Wagon.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was never a high-volume seller if mostly because of its $131,000 US base price ($154,000 in Canada) but it’s status as a legend and its capabilities have always made it a highly-aspirational premium SUV. This, combined with parts shortages and supply issues, slowed production further increasing demand.
What’s more, Mercedes-Benz announced that V8-powered models were to be discontinued for 2022, taking interest in the truck to another level. So strong has demand been of late that order books have been filled for the next three years according to GT Spirit.
As such, if you plan on purchasing a new G-Class, you’ll have to wait for the facelifted model or, alternatively, the EQG, in 2025.
