The wagon lives, and it gets bigger and better
New wagon gets same upgrades as E-class sedan
Mercedes-Benz has just revealed our favourite model of its entire lineup. It’s the 2024 E-Class wagon, with new styling and a longer interior as well as a giant screen befitting of this long-roof Benz.
This is a new generation, not just a refresh, so the changes go much deeper than the sleek new nose and those cool triangle-element taillights. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon is an inch longer for more rear legroom and 1.1 inches wider so passengers aren’t banging elbows.
Cargo space is about the same, but this is still an SUV-rivalling boot. It will hold 615L with the seats up or 1,830 with them folded. The new PHEV model loses some of that space, with 460 and 1,675L thanks to the battery in the rear.
Inside, the E-Class wagon can be fitted with the three-screen Superscreen just like in the sedan. This gives the car an enormous center screen and a large passenger-side display. The ambient lighting can be hooked up to your tunes and pulse with the music. Also like the E-Class, it has Angry Birds and TikTok built-in.
Benz will launch the car with a handful of tasty-sounding diesel engines we definitely won’t get. There are also gas models starting with the 201 hp E 200.
More powerful models are coming, but Benz isn’t talking about them yet. The company said simply “a top model with an electrified in-line six-cylinder will round off the engine range at the top end.”
The PHEV is badged E 300 e. It makes 204 hp from its gas engine and 129 from the e-motor. All-in, Benz expects it to top 100 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle.
So will we get the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon in North America? Benz does sell the AMG version of the car in Canada as well as the All-Terrain quasi-SUV model in both the U.S. and Canada. So there’s a chance it will continue if not a great one.
