Mercedes-Benz T-Class Minivan Coming In Early 2022

New Mercedes-Benz will be offered with traditional combustion engines or electric powertrains

  • Latest Mercedes-Benz van designed for families

  • New T-Class will join redesigned Citan aimed at businesses in new small vans lineup

  • Designed in cooperation with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi

The new Mercedes-Benz T-Class is coming in early 2022 as a new small minivan aimed at families. It will joined the Mercedes-Benz Citan, another small van offered since 2012 that will be redesigned as well.

While the Citan is aimed at business consumers, the T-Class will be for families.

“With the new Mercedes-Benz T-Class, we will offer a vehicle which makes it possible for families and those with active pastimes to step into the Mercedes-Benz world. These customers seek attractive and practical compact vehicles – and it is precisely these demands which the new T-Class fulfils”, says Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The new Mercedes-Benz T-Class will be offered with a choice of traditional combustion engines as well as electrified powertrains.

Now the big question, is it coming to North America? Chances are, no. Although some would love to see the return of the Mercedes-Benz consumer minivan to North America, there’s very little chance it will happen. The defunct R-Class was tested in our waters, and it didn’t make the cut. There just aren’t enough people interested in minivans in North America, and if they are they aren’t interested in a small van.

There’s also no way Mercedes-Benz can tailor the T-Class to the North American market while keeping costs reasonable. Buyers here will just have to get around with a GLB.

Mercedes-Benz will still cater to business needs here, however, with the Mercedes-Benz Metris and Sprinter.
