The filing includes the names EQG 560 and EQG 580.
Hints of an electric G-Wagen date back to late 2019.
It’s expected to arrive around 2024.
Electric trucks and SUVs will very soon become a norm for most automakers. And by trucks, we mean capable to seriously capable off-road and all-terrain vehicles that will back down from nothing. One of the very likely additions will be the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen thanks to recently filed trademarks.
An All-Electric Version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Is in the Works
Late in 2019, we reported that an all-electric of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class was in the works. It was a tweet by a Daimler employee that “confirmed” this was happening. Late last year, Benz actually confirmed that such a vehicle was coming and now we might have names.
According to The Drive, the trademarks completed with Europe’s EUIPO, include documents for an EQG 560 and an EQG 580. Beyond this, however, details are all but non-existent. There’s a likelihood that the EQG will get its own platform as opposed to sharing the EQS’ for example.
The G-Wagen isn’t just another SUV and Mercedes-Benz should uphold what’s made this truck a living legend for more than 40 years. We can also safely assume that it won’t be cheap, small, or light either. The EQG isn’t expected before 2024 so we’ll get plenty more details between now and then.
