  • Models offer best ownership value in Canada

  • Awards have been calculated since 2012

The best value for your new passenger car dollar in Canada? A new study says you’ll find it at Mini, and that includes what the award calls “a best-in-class performance from the Cooper EV.”

Vincentric has been completing its Best Value in Canada awards since 2012. The awards use eight factors, including depreciation, fees, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, “opportunity cost,” and the cost of repairs. The winning vehicles have the lowest ownership costs for their segments and prices.

Other winning brands include Tesla, for Luxury Car and Luxury SUV, Toyota for SUV and Van, and Ram for trucks. This is the fourth time Ram has won that award, while Toyota has won four in a row and seven overall.

The Versa won in the subcompact class for having the lowest insurance and maintenance costs in its class, and the lowest total cost of ownership. The Hyundai Elantra won the compact class, the Mini Cooper EV the Compact Hatchback class, and the Toyota Prius Prime the Mid-Size class.

Other winners include the Tesla Model S and Model 3, the Chevrolet Corvette, Audi A5, Toyota Sequoia, Kia EV, and the Ford F-150 Lightning. Vincentric found that some of the class winners are expected to have ownership costs 30 percent or more under the expectation for the segment.
