The 2024 MINI Countryman is the last model year of the second-generation model, as the all-new third-gen crossover is being introduced for 2025.
For now, the Countryman continues to be offered in four variants with several trim packages, including one equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is a rare choice in the subcompact utility vehicle segment.
2024 MINI Countryman Changes and Updates
Since it’s the last iteration of the second-gen model, only minor changes have been applied to the 2024 model year. The U.S.-market Cooper Countryman and Cooper Countryman ALL4 are exclusively offered in base Classic Trim, while the Cooper SE Countryman offers a new entry-level Signature Trim 2.0 package, while the Iconic Trim 2.0 gains a power tailgate, parking assistance and adaptive cruise control. There are no notable enhancements for the Countryman in Canada.

What the 2024 MINI Countryman Does Well
- The Countryman is different, with a cheery exterior design and a unique cockpit layout. If we’re in the market for a subcompact crossover and we’re willing to spend a little more a month for something out of the ordinary, this MINI is worth a look.
- It’s arguably the most entertaining subcompact crossover to drive, while the JCW variant is undoubtedly the sportiest.
- There’s ample room for four passengers in the MINI Countryman, and cargo space is about average in the subcompact crossover segment.
- Even when equipped with all-wheel drive, fuel economy is quite good. Even the John Cooper Works variant with its 301-horsepower engine is about as efficient as the rest of the lineup.
- The MINI JCW Countryman is not only fast, but handles well too, despite its crossover body style and weight.
What the 2024 MINI Countryman Doesn’t Do Well
- Although some advanced safety driving aids are available, such as forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, other now-common features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist are not offered at all. Some much cheaper competitors now include many of these features as standard.
- The plug-in hybrid MINI Countryman, or Cooper SE, provides emissions-free motoring, but not that much. As a matter of fact, its EV-only driving range isn’t spectacular. Given its base price, the PHEV version isn’t particularly interesting.
- The interior design of the 2024 MINI Countryman is swell, but there are some hard, hollow-sounding plastics spread across the cabin that don’t quite seem right in a vehicle of this price.
- Although the MINI Countryman is slowing climbing in Consumer Reports and J.D. Power rankings, its reliability reputation still needs improvement, and buyers should expect luxury-brand levels of maintenance costs once the initial free scheduled maintenance period is over.
