2014 Mitsubishi Mirage lived through six Minnesota winters
Owners got a deal from their dealer to trade it in
Purple color was a big selling point
There’s a couple in Minnesota that has driven 414,000 miles (662,000 kilometres) in a Mitsubishi Mirage.
Nicknamed the “Purple Won” as a reference to Minnesota-born Prince and the Minnesota Vikings, the car has recently been traded in for a 2020 model.
Jerry and Janice Huot’s Mirage was purchased new six years ago and has survived six Minnesota winters. They were looking for something more efficient than their Cadillac at the time and had owned a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (RVR in Canada) and Montero in the past and had liked both. They bought the car and drove it home that day.
Jerry Huot works as a courier which is how the Mirage accumulated so many miles in such a short time.
As for maintenance, the Huots said they didn’t do anything special except regular maintenance.
“It was stored outside year-round. I used it to haul rocks and mulch for our yard. All we did was routine maintenance. We had to replace the wheel bearings sometime after 150,000 miles, and the starter motor was replaced at somewhere between 200,000 and 300,000 miles. Otherwise, regular oil changes seemed to do the trick. » Jerry Huot said.
The couple says they would have kept their 2014 model, but their dealership gave them an offer they couldn’t refuse on a 2020 model.
“I had brought it into the dealership for regular service and was saying hello to all the people we’ve gotten to know there when Richard (Herrod III, dealer principal) came by. When he heard about how many miles we had on the car, he said he wanted to use it for advertising, so he worked with us to get great deal on a new 2020 Mirage”.
