Mitsu planning a new model that could be a concept brought to life
Automaker also partnering for Yamaha audio for first time
Mitsubishi is getting ready to reveal a new compact crossover, but the question we have is if we’ll see it here. The new compact will debut at an Indonesian auto show, but the brand very much needs new product in the North American market too.
Along with the teaser for the new small crossover, Mitsubishi says it is the first of a series of new crossovers bound for the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) markets. The region is part of Mitsubishi’s core sales area.
The new model will get “robust, authentic SUV styling” and Mitsubishi says it will have a spacious cabin and versatile storage space. IT will also debut a new audio system developed in cooperation with Yamaha. The collaboration is a first for the two brands.
It’s expected that the new model will be a production version of the Mitsubishi XCF concept, says Carscoops. The site also said that while Mitsubishi may sell rebadged Renault models (the two are part of an alliance that also includes Nissan) in Europe, it will sell its own models in the ASEAN region.
That same report says that Mitsubishi will launch six new models by the end of this year. Even if only one or two arrive in our market, they will be well-needed replacements in a lineup that includes the aging Mirage, Outlander Sport/RVR, and Eclipse Cross sitting alongside the well-received and award-winning full-size Outlander and Outlander PHEV that has just recently launched.
