More Lexus Plug-In Hybrid Models Coming Soon

Toyota and its luxury division, Lexus, are the masters of hybridization. You probably already know that. Nowhere else can you find as many electrified models. Nowhere else are the sales percentages of such models higher, besides brands that only offer electric vehicles, of course.

  • Toyota’s American battery plant will enable Lexus to expand its electrified lineup

  • More than 50% of Lexus Canada sales are electrified models

  • Lexus celebrated its 35th anniversary this year

In Canada, 56% of Lexus sales are attributable to electrified models.

And this figure is set to grow, starting in 2026. It will come naturally with the addition of the ES to the lineup, and let’s not forget that this model will still be offered in hybrid configuration. But the company won’t stop there.

During our visit to British Columbia last week, as part of an event celebrating Lexus’ 35 years, the president of the company’s Canadian division, Martin Gilbert, confirmed that we will soon see more plug-in hybrid models within the company’s portfolio.

Of course, he didn’t confirm specific models or dates, but he reminded us that the current lineup now includes only one vehicle not offered with some form of electrification, the GX SUV. He added that the future will be even more electrified.

2026 Lexus RZ: More Power and Longer Range

To know when, we need to look across the border, to the battery plant that Toyota operates in the United States. Its official inauguration took place last month, though production had already begun earlier this year. Thus, from now on, the company will gradually have more components at its disposal, enabling it to offer more models that require them.

And that’s when we’ll see more plug-in hybrid solutions in the lineup. That’s why we can talk about 2026, with announcements to come next year. Toyota is ready. Let’s remember that Toyota invested $14 billion USD in its US plant.

And which models could join the ranks of plug-in hybrids? Your guesses are as good as ours. Currently, the NX and RX SUVs offer electric range. We could imagine the compact UX offering the same thing, as well as the new ES sedan eventually, or even more thirstier models like the TX or LX. And why not the GX, not to mention that new models are on the horizon as well.

One thing’s for sure, it will be interesting to watch in 2026. Until then, you can bet on one thing: Lexus will have increased its sales of electrified models in Canada by the end of 2026.
