The small M2 will have M3/M4 power.
It will likely get the CS or CSL moniker.
The new BMW 2 Series remains a core model for brand enthusiasts. The new current coupe is an excellent driver and is available in two different variants; there’s more to come. The most anticipated one is the M2 which has stood as one of the best-driving BMWs for the last few generations. A new one is on the way as well as a harder-core version.
The last generation of the BMW M2 held a CS version, which was epic. And the next one is shaping up to be even more exceptional. The new M240i is already an impressive car in many respects. In fact, it’s nearly as fast as the last M2 which means that the next one will have to be far more potent.
According to autocar, the next top-version M2, which could get the CS or CSL moniker, will be powered by an enhanced version of BMW’s turbocharged 6-cylinder 3.0L S58 engine. In the “base” M3 and M4, it produces 473hp. The transmission will be an 8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission with paddle shifters sending the power to the rear wheels.
This car will also lose some weight, as expected from a CS or CSL. The previous 444-hp M2 CS tipped the scales at 1,550kg or nearly 200kg less than the M4.
Yes, this M2 will be very fast and is expected to arrive in the first half of 2023.
