Neolun Becomes Genesis GV90 In 2025: Report

Another sleek Genesis concept likely for production

  • Giant Genesis expected next year

  • Could be brand’s first with coach doors

The first full-sized Genesis SUV is said to start production in December of next year. A report says it will be based on the Neolun concept car and built on the company’s second-generation electric platform.

Korean Car Blog reported on the news (via Autoblog). The site said that its sources said Genesis parent Hyundai was sending out requests for quotation to its partners and suppliers regarding that next-gen eM electric platform.

The Genesis GV90 is one of the four models said to be in the quote, along with a GV80, GV70, and G80. The GV80 is expected to be the highest-volume of the four, with requests for around 68,000 per year vs. 21,000 copies of the GV90.

Genesis launched the Neolun concept car earlier this year in New York, and the elegant full-size model will be the basis for the GV90. The report calls it the first large electric SUV on the market, and it is expected to be more than 200 mm longer than the Kia EV9.

The Neolun had highly unusual details like coach-opening rear doors and a huge screen that could unfurl from the dash. TKCB hints that the coach doors could make production, thanks to the rigidity of the new electric platform. Prior reports about the EV suggested that Genesis was targeting Rolls and Bentley with this one, not just its usual competition.

If production is indeed set to start in December, we would expect to see the production version of the GV90 in short order. Possibly at a stand-alone event, but it could also be on display at the Seoul auto show next March.
