World debut takes place on June 9th.
The reveal will take place on Lexus’ Facebook page.
The Japanese luxury makers have clearly not given up on sport sedans. Only last week, Acura revealed the all-new 2021 TLX promising that it will rekindle the passion and drive that once defined Honda’s luxury brand. This time, it’s Lexus that will attempt to light a spark under what was arguably once one of the best compact sport sedans in the world: The Lexus IS.
The difference here is that Toyota’s luxury brand is not referring to the 2021 Lexus IS as all-new, but simply “new”. We reported only a few weeks ago that this might be the case and now we have some form of confirmation.
The only real visible aspect in the image is the continuous red LED taillight which gives nothing away. Even a brightened up image shows little more than reflectors in the bumper and lines below it that remind us of a diffuser.
The Lexus press release is bold and straightforward: “Bringing the thrill of driving to the compact luxury sports car segment, Lexus will pull the cover off the new 2021 IS sports sedan next week.” They are not stating that they are bringing “back” the thrill, more along the lines that this updated IS will be more entertaining to drive than it was. It’s no secret, the Lexus IS hasn’t been all that thrilling in a long time.
The new 2021 Lexus IS will go live on Lexus’ Facebook page on June 9th.
