New-generation 2021 Lexus IS unveiling postponed out of respect for George Floyd
*Update – A previous version of this article speculated on why the Lexus IS unveiling may have been postponed including the car not being ready or a technical problem with the unveiling. I was very wrong. Lexus chose to respectfully postpone the unveiling as a sign of respect for George Floyd and the current situation of inequality in the US.
Lexus has postponed the unveiling of the 2021 Lexus IS which was originally scheduled for June 9.
In a statement published on June 3, Lexus parent company Toyota showed its support in the fight against social injustice.
“We all have witnessed unacceptable bigotry and a lack of education around the COVID-19 virus to more recent societal issues of violence, killings and racism against African Americans in Minnesota, Kentucky, Georgia and elsewhere. These events may be difficult for many of us to process and our thoughts are with all those directly affected and their families and friends.”

In a press release published Friday, Lexus said “Lexus has respectfully postponed the world premier of the new IS, which was originally scheduled for June 9. Revised timing will be announced soon”.
