2022 Polestar 2 Single Motor range beats original estimates
The Single Motor trim is front-wheel drive and offers 231 horsepower
It is more affordable than AWD Dual Motor version
The new, more affordable 2022 Polestar 2 Single Motor is rated at 434 kilometres of range, or 270 miles.
This surpasses the original Polestar estimate of 426 kilometres (265 miles) announced when the new Polestar 2 Single Motor was introduced. The Single Motor is a more affordable, FWD version of the Polestar 2 that uses the same 78 kWh battery as the Polestar 2 Dual Motor, but only one electric motor located on the front axle. While the Dual Motor pumps out 408 horsepower to all four wheels, the Single Motor sends 231 horsepower to the front wheels.
There is a significant difference in performance as the Dual Motor reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 5.0 seconds while the Single Motor needs over 7.0 seconds. However, there is also a big price difference.
The 2022 Polestar 2 Single Motor is priced at $49,900 in Canada and $45,900 in the US. That’s $7,000 less than the Dual Motor in Canada and $4,000 less in the US. More importantly, the Polestar 2 Single Motor is eligible for more government incentives up north including up to $8,000 in Quebec.
Along with the new Single Motor version, the other significant change to the Polestar 2 is the addition of a heat pump available in an option package for 2022. This provides a more efficient heating system for the cabin in order to reduce the strain on the battery in cold weather.
