New 2024 Lexus GX 550 Coming to an Urban Jungle Near You

The new GX is guaranteed to appeal to rugged premium SUV buyers

Unveiled at the Montreal International Auto Show, the 2024 Lexus GX 550 will absolutely put the hurt on the competition. All things rugged and luxurious are in high demand and the new GX merges both aspects like few others can.

The 2024 Lexus GX 550’s heart is a 3.4L twin-turbo V6 engine, replacing the old V8 engine, producing a formidable 349 horsepower and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. Providing more power and efficiency, and more gears thanks to the 10-speed automatic transmission, the GX 550 will absolutely out-drive the previous version. And the standard full-time four-wheel drive, at the very least it will keep up with it off road.

Beyond being posh without fearing getting dirty, the GX can up to 8,000 lb. The vehicle comes factory-equipped with essential towing features such as a trailer ball and tow hitch, trailer brake controller, and trailer sway control.

The Lexus GA-F platform, shared with the LX 600, provides the bones for the new GX. Its increased body rigidity is designed to handle off-road stresses, ensures stable wheel articulation and consistent tire contact. The GX 550’s suspension system, featuring a double-wishbone front and multilink rear setup, delivers exceptional performance both on and off the road.

The 2024 GX 550 is boxy and rightly so. The rugged yet refined body style features a seriously square-body profile, broad fender flares, and enhanced ground clearance enabling the SUV to navigate challenging terrains. Its approach, breakover, and departure angles are specifically calculated for superior off-road capability. Additionally, the Overtrail and Overtrail+ models feature unique two-tone paint schemes with black roofs. Do mind the paint though…

The horizontal instrument panel enhances visibility, while physical dials for climate control and audio maintain a balance of modernity and practicality. As well, it is delivered with a 12.3-inch multi-information display.
