New Cadillac Will be Symboliq: So Says a Swiss IP Filing

Patent Office filing says Cadillac grabbing Symboliq name

  • Symboliq third Cadillac to use iq naming

  • Could join already announced Lyriq and Celestiq

Cadillac looks to be adding a third name to its stable of EVs. A new report has uncovered a filing from the automaker to use Symboliq on an upcoming vehicle.

We’ve already learned about the XT5 sized electric crossover called the Cadillac Lyriq that is the company’s first all-EV coming to market. It’s set to be revealed in August, with features like a massive 33-inch display. We’ve also heard about the Celestiq, a hand-built flagship luxury model that is set for somewhere down the road, and we’ve learned that Cadillac will use the iq suffix on more of its electric names.

Cadillac Lyriq EV Will Get Massive 33-Inch Interior Screen

The latest one looks like it will be called Symboliq. That symbolic (sorry) name has been filed with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property for use on “motorized land vehicles, namely automobiles.” The filing, dug up by Cadillac Society, was made July 22nd, covering Symboliq and Cadillac Symboliq.

It’s a big departure from the current Cadillac CT and XT name pattern, which is itself not all that old. While many may have been hoping for the return of badges like DeVille and Eldorado, this is likely one more way for the brand to give its vehicles more of an identity while making it clear that this is not the Caddy of excess and tailfin of old. And if you’re wondering, yes it’s pronounced “ick”, not “eek.”
