New Conti C.A.R.E tire technology aims to improve vehicle fleet efficiency, safety, and durability.
Lost in all of the fanfare of the Frankfurt Motor Show was a new tire by Continental that helps reduce fuel consumption. That’s the gist of it, but it’s actually more complex than that. Conti C.A.R.E. stands for Connected, Autonomous, Reliable and Electrified.
The tires rely on a set of sensors located in the tires called ContiSense which monitor a range of data including tread depth, damage, temperature and tire pressure. Centrifugal pumps are built into the tires as well which can generate compressed air into the tire in order to adjust tire pressure based on how the vehicle is being driven. One of the benefits of being to do that is the ability to adjust pressure to make the vehicle more fuel-efficient.
For fleet owners, this could mean thousands of dollars in savings. The ContiSense system will also make it easier for large vehicle fleets to keep their tires in the best condition.
