The company is showing teasers of an upcoming SUV that looks at lot like the 2021 Ford Bronco
You probably haven’t heard about Chinese company Wey, but you have certainly heard of the new 2021 Ford Bronco. It appears the design team over at Wey also heard about it and decided it would be acceptable for its upcoming SUV.
The company has only released teasers so far, but it’s clear the new Bronco played a big role in inspiring the design. Autoblog picked up on the original post on China’s Autohome. The headlights are almost identical as are the side mirrors. We can also see large flared fenders in black that are also reminiscent of the Ford Bronco. Obviously, Wey could have copied the Jeep Wrangler too for the body and used teaser images of the Bronco to design their headlights.
China is famous for copying designs in just about every industry, and automotive is no exception. Perhaps the most famous example when it comes to cars is Landwing. The Chinese company introduced the Landwing X7 in 2014, an SUV that looked almost exactly like the Range Rover Evoque.
Land Rover successfully sued Landwing. The 2019 ruling stated that consumers confused the Evoque and the Landwing and that the latter had violated Range Rover’s copyright.
We’re guessing that if the Wey SUV comes out looking too much like a new Bronco, Ford will get on their case quickly. They may join forces with the folks at Jeep, although that would be very surprising.
