Pre-production for the all-electric Lightning pickup began this month.
The demand has been so strong that Ford will doubling its initial production number plans.
Ford apparently has many other EV plans that will be revealed in the coming months.
Assuming the date is correct, we can almost read the October 27th headline now: All-new 2022 Ford Lightning pickup sells out in 10 minutes. This will be followed by numerous complaints from potential customers who will have inevitably faced ordering system problems due to overwhelming demand and traffic on the order site.
Now that Rivian’s has gotten production of the R1T truck underway, the pressure is on Ford to get the Lightning going. There’s no chance that the Rivian truck will hurt F-150 Lightning sales but somewhere, someone at Ford must be dealing with a bruised ego.
The 2022 Ford Lightning has been the talk of North American automotive media since last spring and soon, according to the f150gen14 forums, interested buyers will get a chance to get on board, hand over a deposit, and get a number.
The order books are rumoured to open on October 26th meaning that you have just over one month to make sure your internet connection is flawless.
