Chevy and Beverly are back as Clark and Ellen Griswold.
We can’t believe the movie debuted 31 years ago…
Also, it’s a toss-up between the Family Truckster and the Mach-E, honestly.
Ford managed to get both Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo to star alongside a new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E in a twist of the famous Christmas light lighting scene from the equally famous and loved movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
The TV spot shows Chase, as his alter-ego Clark Griswold, about to connect the two ends of the extension cords. The entire family, or another version of it, including D’Angelo as Ellen Griswold, surrounds Chase as he’s about to fire up the light show. As you might remember, especially if you’ve watched the movie 50 times as we have, things don’t go as planned.
The night’s savior happens to the Mach-E as Ellen plugs it in and miraculously, the lights go on. We’re thinking maybe Ford’s confirming the V2G is on the way?
“It’s great to be back for another Christmas with my on-screen family and its rotating assortment of kids – and I have Ford and Mustang Mach-E to thank for paying me to do it,” said Chase. “I suppose you’re expecting some sort of riff on electric cars, but I can say with 85% certainty that this thing probably won’t cause any blackouts in your neighborhood when you plug it in.”

“My favorite sidekick role is playing ELLEN GRISWOLD to Chevy’s CLARK, my one and only Sparky,” D’Angelo said. “But this year, the brightest spark is the Mustang Mach-E in the driveway! Please don’t tell him I said that. I’m already in trouble for bringing a different set of kids every time we go on a vacation.”
The new short featuring the Griswolds and the Ford Mustang Mach-E will air on the SNL Christmas Special on December 22nd.
