New Genesis G80 Styling Is Offensively Cool

In a few digital renderings, the new Genesis G80 looks mighty different than the car we’ve known for a few years. We’re not too sure we like it though.

Hyundai’s luxury brand continues to work hard at building a name and some brand recognition. Most will agree that without an SUV available yesterday, they’re wasting their time. In the meantime, Genesis is preparing to reveal the new Genesis G80 sedan.

These renderings were prepared by Kolesa.ru based on spy shots found on the web. The front and rear fascias are dramatically different, and spark very different comments.

The rear is incredibly distinct and could, or should, become a signature design highlight for all Genesis products moving forward, with the possible exception of the Mint. None of the prototypes have revealed their “bottoms” for the moment so this angle of the rendering is a huge guess. We like it though.

The front does not have the same effect. The front fenders and bonnet meet in a very Bentley-like way. The grille is overly exaggerated and comical. On the other hand, the headlights works much like the tails.

The car is expected to debut this upcoming September. The 2020 Genesis G80 is expected to carry the same 3.8-liter V6 and twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 as the current car. Finally, a hybrid version could be in the works.

The real question is: Will luxury sedans buy it?
