Just when you thought the automotive world was boring, Honda goes and develops a new airbag.
The new Honda airbag is a bit hard to explain into the words which is why we put the video above. As you can see, the new airbag in question is considerably different from the traditional protection found in today’s cars.
It has three sections, or chambers, that serve to protect the occupant better in all types of frontal crashes. The idea is that with a normal airbag, the head has less protection in an angled accident where the occupant moves slightly to the right or to the left. The new airbag corrects that problem by offering better padding on each side thanks to the three sections.
Where your head and body would normally begin to shift away from the centre of a regular airbag, the new design actually envelops your head and wraps it in a protective cushion.
It’s a smart design and if it reduces injuries, we are all for it. It will always help Honda move past that whole Takata thing…
