According to the report, much of the all-new 11th generation Civic’s lineup will be electrified.
The all-new Civic will launch this spring.
The Type R is expected a few months later.
Technical details on the all-new 11th generation Honda Civic remain scarce. Although it seems clear that electrification will be part of the plan, the high-powered and appreciated Honda Civic Type R will return for 2022 without. Consider this the Type R’s swansong because it will be the last.
Whether we like it or not, the end of the petrol-powered internal combustion engine is nearing. A number of automakers have announced their intentions to move over to a fully-electrified product line. But, like Volkswagen for example, Honda will offer the Type R with the 306-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre engine for one lats time. According to Autocar, it’s unlikely that the output will grow as the Type R is already dancing on the limits of what’s possible when it comes to a FWD vehicle.
Many other components that make the Civic Type R so great should return, including an advanced limited-slip differential, a rear multi-link suspension setup along with adaptive dampers. The cabin is expected to sport highly-bolstered seats, red detailing, and a short and slick shifter for the manual transmission. The source story out mentions of the 6-speed manual transmission but we’ll assume it’s a simple omission…
The 2022 Honda Civic Type R should break cover between the summer and fall of 2021.
